This website provides information and guides for various insurance products and offers the opportunity to take out insurance online. These include travel health insurance, animal health insurance and vehicle insurance.

Applicable requirements

HanseMerkur Reiseversicherung AG endeavors to design and implement its websites in accordance with the requirements of the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and the Austrian Accessibility Act, and thus for all users if possible to be handicapped accessible.

The specific technical requirements are based on the specifications of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, conformity levels A and AA, as well as the EN 301 549 standard.

This accessibility declaration applies exclusively to content and functionalities provided under the main domain www.hansemerkur.at  

Status of compatibility with the requirements

The website www.hansemerkur.at is partially accessible according to the above-mentioned requirements. The known barriers and their causes are listed below to the best of our knowledge.

  • Some form fields do not support autocomplete.

  • Some forms have a time limit and reset after 30 minutes of inactivity. The remaining time is not displayed. 
  • Some selection areas open new browser windows without notification.

Motor Limitations (WCAG 2.2, Success Criteria 1.1.1 Non-text Content, 2.5.1 Pointer Gestures)

  • Some pages contain elements that can only be operated using swipe gestures. No alternatives such as dots or arrow keys are currently offered.

  • Some videos lack complete captions or audio descriptions.

  • Contrast ratios are insufficient in some areas, affecting text, graphics, and controls
  • Some error messages are communicated only through color. This affects checkboxes and some buttons in application processes.

  • Some application processes allow erroneous clicks, such as when the 'Next' button is active before a tariff is selected or input is made.
  • Some application processes allow implausible entries, resulting in inconsistent error messages.
  • Some error messages and labels are not properly implemented. Additionally, some errors cannot be read by assistive technologies.
  • Some elements are not correctly associated with labels or headings. 
  • Some error messages are too neutral, making it unclear what the exact error is. Readable error messages for checkboxes are also missing.

  • Navigation is inconsistent or incorrectly implemented on some pages. Some application processes lack navigation entirely. 
  • Different terms are used for the same context in some application processes, which may cause confusion. 
  • Some elements are not properly marked up, preventing areas from being skipped and making navigation with assistive technologies difficult.

Adaptability (WCAG 2.2, Success Criteria 1.4.4 Resize text, 1.4.5 Images of Text, 1.4.12 Text Spacing, 1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence, 11.7 Custom settings)

  • Some content, such as in accordions, is not sufficiently hidden from screen readers.
  • Some content is not presented in the correct sequence or is displayed incorrectly.
  • When text is enlarged to 200%, some text is cut off and cannot be accessed by scrolling.
  • Adjusting text spacing sometimes results in overlapping content.

  • Tables do not allow switching between tariffs via screen reader. 
  • Tables are not implemented with scope, th, and ID. 
  • Benefit comparisons are not correctly structured as data tables.

  • Some headings, lists, quotes, and paragraphs are not properly marked up in HTML or are used incorrectly.

  • Content is not properly displayed on some devices.

  • Contract documents such as insurance confirmations, claims notifications, status notifications, and similar documents created due to other legal requirements are not covered by the BaFG.
  • Individual customer correspondence and communications regarding contract execution also do not fall under the BaFG requirements.
